David landed roles as a writer and performer for ABC show Fridays (1979-1982) and Saturday Night Live (1984-85), meeting future Seinfeld collaborators including Julia Louis-Dreyfus and Larry Charles. David quit SNL after only one of his sketches was aired during his time there.
