For instance, a heads-up speedometer display is projected on a clear panel that rises above the speedometer on deluxe versions. Mazda mounted it that way, instead of having the digital image projected on to the windshield like in some luxury cars, because, among other things, it's cheaper. But it doesn't seem as nice.
